Our biggest family adventure of 2007 was renting a 26 foot RV and driving it to Alaska with just the boys and I. This is the RV parked outside the bar aka Information Center for Hyder, Alaska. (Notice the road - th
at is the main street and all streets through Hyder - dirt!) The bartender could answer any question we had about our "reservation" at the campground. She laughed when I told her we had reservations. She said that is pretty rare for someone to make reservations.... She knew where we could do laundry. And where we could see bears. But most of this town was under snow, especially our campground! Out of 26 spots, 3 were accessable to water and power. Since we had a reservation though, we had a spot! Tom rode his motorcyle from Hyder, Arizona to Hyder, Alaska as part of a rally and we met him there. It took us 2 and a 1/2 days to make the drive from Oregon and he passed us 25 miles out of Hyder. Ok, we drove slower and slept - he made the drive in 54 hours and only slept 9 hours. He was going to camp with us on our way home and ride his bike back, but that changed 30 miles into the drive home when his bike broke down. We had to have him towed 3 hours to the nearest town where we had to purchase a trailer! So I drove the RV home towing the bike and trailer. It was a great trip, full of funny moments, adventure, and good times. I would even probably do it again - and I am not a camping person. I stay at Howard Johnson!
More highlights to come... Tonight we are getting Tom and the boys ready for their campout this weekend with the boy scouts. They are going to a snowcamp so the boys need boots, gloves, snow pants, long johns, etc.... Of course, for some reason, we are waiting til the last minute to get this all pulled together. So we are off to GI Joes!
Have a nice evening....
